1987The record opens

Calvin & Son has been putting roofs on this town for long enough that the second ones are coming due.

The business started in 1987. Bud runs it now, and his father ran it before him, which is where the name comes from. One customer put it more plainly than any of this: his dad did my roof 20 years ago and Bud carries on the tradition.

That is the whole pitch, really. A roof is a twenty year decision made by someone you may never see again, so it helps when the person quoting it is the same person who will still be here when it needs looking at.

The room

A roof, from the first shingle off to the magnet sweep.

Scroll sideways through the stages of a job the way you would go through a file of them.

Shingles being stripped from a brick ranch roof, with a covered dumpster on the drive

01

The tear off

Plants get covered before a single shingle comes off, and the dumpster goes where it will not chew up the drive. Crews clean as they go rather than leaving it all to the last afternoon.

Storm torn shingles with roof decking exposed along the eave

02

What the deck shows

The decking is the part nobody has seen in twenty years. Rot at the eave, tired felt and nail pops all turn up here, and you get told about them before anything new goes down.

A finished shingle roof with a clean eave line, gutter and downspout in evening light

03

The new roof on

Shingle from one of the six lines Calvin & Son carries, laid to a straight eave line. On a house that allows it, the crew has been known to finish in a day and a half.

A seamless gutter run along a shingle roof edge catching low evening sun

04

The gutter run

Gutter is formed on site to the length of your fascia. That is what seamless means in practice: the only joints in the whole run are at the corners and the outlets.

A white TPO membrane roof with welded seams, parapet coping and a roof drain

05

Flat roofs in town

Commercial low slope is a different trade to a pitched house roof. The work lives in the seams, the drains and the parapet edge, and that is where a flat roof fails first.

A composite shake roof with a cedar shingled gable above it

06

Composite and wood

Composite and wood roofs still go on houses around Tahlequah, and they want handling on their own terms rather than being treated as an odd sort of asphalt.

03What goes on the roof

Six shingle lines carried, and a willingness to chase the one you want.

A customer wanted a hard to get shingle and the owner went well out of his way to secure it. If you have a line in mind, say so early and it can usually be sorted.

04On the door

The plate beside the door.

Not a wall of badges. Just the four things a Tahlequah homeowner would reasonably want to check before letting anyone up a ladder.

He applied sealant where the vent pipe was leaking at NO CHARGE. Bud demonstrated the utmost professionalism, courtesy and cordiality.

05How a job runs

Four steps, and you are told the truth at the second one.

  1. A

    You call, Bud comes out

The estimate is free and it is the owner who looks at the roof. If water is coming in, that look happens the same day.

  2. B

You get told what it actually is

Sometimes that is a full replacement. Sometimes it is a vent pipe seal and you are sent on your way. One customer wrote that exact thing happened and it cost her nothing.

  3. C

    The crew works the house

Plants covered, drive kept clear, cleanup as the work goes rather than at the end.

  4. D

    It gets swept and warranted

A magnet sweep for nails before anyone leaves, and a warranty on both the product and the workmanship.

06Questions we get

The things people ring up and ask.

If yours is not here, the phone is answered between 7 and 6, Monday to Friday, and emergencies do not wait for office hours.

No. Estimates are free. Bud comes out, looks at the roof, and tells you what he finds, including when a repair will do and a full replacement is not needed yet.

Calvin & Son Roofing holds Oklahoma License #80000737 and is BBB accredited with an A+ rating. Warranties are available on both products and workmanship, including the seamless gutters formed on site.

Yes. Emergency roofing and emergency gutter service are both available outside the Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM office hours. When water is coming in, the first job is stopping it, then working out what the real repair is.

Veteran and senior discounts are available. Ask when you call and it will be applied to the estimate.

Cleanup is part of the job, not a favour. Plants get covered before the tear-off starts, the crew cleans as they go, and the yard gets a magnet sweep for nails at the end. Customers have written that the yard was left cleaner than it was found.

Yes. Alongside residential work, Calvin & Son handles commercial low-slope systems: flat roofs, TPO, and rubber membrane.

We had a great experience with Calvin & Son! They were friendly, prompt, professional, and did high-quality work. They went above and beyond, leaving our yard even cleaner than it was before they arrived to replace our roofing! We were very pleased with their work and will absolutely use them again in the future. Highly recommend!!!
